The Aston Martin DBX. The SUV that saved Aston Martin from bankruptcy.

Hello and welcome back to another super car review where today we go in depth with the incredible Aston Martin DBX. I admit, it has been a hot minute since the publishing of our last review but the car that we have will hopefully make up for it. The new looks of the Aston Martin based off of the Vantage is a mix of German engineering and wonderful style. But let's talk about the real reason why Aston Martin made the DBX. And that is because of their financial issues. Just through out 2018, this iconic car company lost nearly 84 million dollars, and added 60 million to that the following year. Their sales dropped nearly 9% throughout 2019 alone. And as things couldn't get any worse for Aston Martin, the coronavirus hit. Aston Martin tried to cut costs by shrinking its workforce. This saved them some money, but they were still millions in dept. At this point, they were close to going under. As of 2020, Aston Martin shares were trading for 49 cents, down considerably from its 25 dollar value in 2018. From May 8th to May 13th starred the most devastating drop in stock prices in Aston Martin history. On May 8th, the Aston Martin stock was valued at $79.20 per share, and 5 days later, it was valued at a record low $7.94 per share. In late May of 2020, Tobias Moers, former head of the highly successful Mercedes AMG team took over in hopes to steer Aston Martin back on track as their new CEO. Aston Martin's recovery plan rested on one more car. The DBX was a challenge to keep up with the changing automotive market and hopefully reverse Aston Martin's punishing losses. Other manufacturing companies have seen great success changing up their inventory with an SUV such as Lamborghini's Urus, Rolls-Royce's Cullinan, and Bentely with its Bentayga. For example, Porsche sells more Cayenne's and Macan's (SUV's) than any other model combined. If the DBX succeeds, it gives Aston Martin the financial cushion to continue manufacturing the more popular grand tourers that they are known for. There was only one more thing left to do And that was to go ahead and design, manufacture and sell the DBX. And boy, did they. The DBX is powered by a monster twin-turbo 4.0 litre V8 (used in the Vantage and DB11) supplied by Mercedes AMG, pushing out around 542 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission also supplied by Mercedes gives the DBX a very smooth ride. Adaptive dampers and air springs come standard with the DBX. The DBX is fundamentally a rear-wheel drive car, though a center transfer case sends torque to the front when slippage is detected. The cabin is covered with hand-stitched leather, soft-touch surfaces, and a microsuade headliner. The DBX comes standard with a 12.3 inch fully digital gauge cluster also coming with heated front and rear seats, customizable ambient lighting, with three-zone climate control settings. Some options include ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and can come with even fancier cabin materials. Not to mention the amount of space throughout the DBX. Rear-seat space is plentiful with enough knee and head room for adults. With 22 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seats and 52 with the back seats down, the trunk space is ample as well. The 12.3 inch infotainment screen is powered through steering wheel controls, as well as the rotary knob located on the center console. One con of the DBX is that it does not come with popular features such as Apple CarPlay, built in navigation, USB and 12-volt charging outlets. Luckily, enough of Aston Martin's target for the DBX were older families that didn't need the access electronics. What really got people excited for the DBX was the looks. The Aston Martin team wanted most of the exterior elements to resemble the Vantage. Most people thought that this could not be done. Taking parts from a grand tourer, and putting them on an SUV seemed like a challenge enough, and most people had mixed opinions on the DBX. Before they have seen it in person. The DBX was first designed by Aston Martin in 2015, and the first one rolled off the assembly line on June 11 2020 Costing just under 200k. Throughout the summer of 2020, DBX’s slowly started to trickle into dealerships and showrooms where then the public could be exposed to seeing this car in person. The DBX that I was lucky enough to see was at the Sarasota Studio in Sarasota Florida where they were packed with many incredible cars. Among the C8, DB11, MSO 600lt, 720s, and Continental GT, there was the DBX. A car that I never thought I was going to see. Walking through those doors and just getting a glimpse of the DBX was beyond an incredible sight. As I shuffled my way past the 720's to get a closer look at the DBX was when I truly saw how gorgeous this car really was. Pictures do no justice. You have to see it in person. Each line flowed to the next until they seemed to wrap around the back. After a few seconds of staring at the rear end of the DBX was when I really saw how much it resembled the Vantage. The lights and grill were exactly the same. The body style was a little different than most SUV 's . In a good way. In fact everything about this car was meant to resemble Aston Martin and their crazy styled cars. I truly believe with the amount of people adding these to their garages, this is the car that saved Aston Martin. With the incredible work from the Aston Martin team, and Tobias Moers, Aston Martin has become a way more popular car company and they now have the profit from the DBX to continue manufacturing our favorite grand tourers. The Aston Martin team has been through a lot this past decade, but I hope that the DBX helped them to be able to continue producing their beautifully styled supercars. Since the addition of the DBX, the Aston Martin stock has slowly been cruising up to $28.28 per share. It will take years until one share reaches it's value of $89.78 before the giant May 8th 2020 drop. If you ever have the chance to visit a showroom with a DBX definitely go visit. The DBX was the solution to the financial issues of Aston Martin, and with the stunning style, this might be the best SUV out there right now.
